Roller vs branding iron
A branding iron burns one mark at a time, needs heat and gives off smoke. A roller lays a continuous band cold, in any marker color, and swapping the design means swapping the engraved roll rather than machining a new iron. Choose a branding iron when you want a burnt mark. Ink durability depends on the marker, wood finish and use.
Which ink on which wood?
Untreated, planed wood takes water-based acrylic like kraft does. Sealed, varnished or oiled surfaces are non-porous, so use an alcohol or oil ink and test first. Rough sawn grain breaks the line, smoother faces print crisper.

Common questions
Does it work outdoors?
The inks are decor grade. They hold up indoors and in normal handling, but prolonged weather will wear any unsealed imprint, so treat outdoor use as temporary signage.
Can I brand cutting boards?
The inks are not certified for food contact. Use a separate packaging tag rather than applying them to a board used for preparing or serving food.
How smooth does the wood need to be?
The smoother the face, the crisper the band. Planed and sanded surfaces print cleanly, rough sawn grain breaks the line. Test one piece first.
Burnt look or ink look?
A roller prints ink, it does not scorch. If the brief specifically calls for a burnt finish, that is branding-iron territory, Choose the roller when you want a repeating ink band.
